GOLF: US Open 2021 Summary

By Nic Rees

Friday marks the beginning of golf’s third major of the year punters and we’re going deep to find you a bit of value amongst the field.

All the usual suspects sit atop the market but surprisingly none are yet to be backed into single figures which would indicate its a fairly open race this year! Spains John Rahm is the favourite at $10 after a glorious showing at the Memorial Tournament 2 weeks back before being sensationally being forced to withdraw due to a positive result on a mandatory COVID test. It appears punters are confident he can pull off another almost perfect display.

Defending champ Bryson Dechambeau ($15) and bitter rival Brooks Koepka ($19) are also two to keep an eye on and are worth a $20 saver. Rumours of the two being in the same group this weekend could see a repeat of the Korn Ferry Tours (The PGA’s Minor League) brawl which saw the two rivals and their fathers get into a full blown punch up on the 7th green!

We’ve gone a bit patriotic here and taken a look at some of the Aussies going out this week. Cam Smith is the best backed Aussie at $51 to win but we here at YTP think the real value is with countryman Leishman Lager founder Big Marc Leishman. ‘Big Leish’ us currently sitting at $67 and is our best value bet. He’s won a PGA Tour event at the venue, finished runner up twice and has been quoted as saying that Torrey Pines is one of his favourite courses on tour. He ranks in the top 80 thus year in greens in regulation and will need his irons and wedges to be crisp as his beer to avoid the notorious rough around the greens.

Look for Big Leish to make moves early and consolidate his spot art the top later in the week. If you are looking to chime into a price more palatable to your tastes have a gander at these markets – Any Aussie to finish in the top 10 currently sits at around $2 and two or more Aussies to finish in the top 10 is at $8.

As always Good Luck & Happy Punting!!!
