Lee Freedman, a truly INTREPIDACIOUS operator.

By Jack McInerney –

There is no easy way to put it but it’s safe to say if you backed it in Ipswich Race 9 on the weekend you were walling for a good 25-30 minutes post race with tears in your eyes. To compound the trauma it was beaten by 0.1L two starts back when we were on also, and just to top it all off it was pipped by fucking LILLEMORE Saturday and two starts back was beaten by OUTBACK BARBIE of all horses. If you missed the race watch the replay here:

The other thing about Intrepidacious’ run was that she was Lee Freedman’s first runner for his new Gold Coast Training Operation he launched about a month or so ago. Anyone with half an idea about racing and its history would know who Lee Freedman is, one third of the once notorious Freedman Brothers Incorporated aka FBI. He is probably most well known for his quote post Makybe Diva winning her third Melbourne Cup.

“Go and find the smallest child on this course because that will be the only person that lives long enough to see something like this again”

The rumours surrounding N.Callow coming up to Queensland to be Lee Freedman’s stable jock as such will surely be the source of bulk winners if Lee can get some momentum in the coming weeks. Those with any idea about Queensland Racing will tell you it is a space completely and utterly dominated by the all conquering Tony Gollan stable and the emergence of someone the ilk of L.Freedman is just what the state needs to throw up some competition to the indomitable Gollan stable.

Tony’s ability to improve his horses is very impressive and to be honest nothing short of mind-blowing, he has taken a horse like JONKER who was a run of the mill piss weak horse with borderline shambolic race manners, few weeks with the “sunshine on the back” and it comes out in Brisbane racing like a well oiled machine winning every race it contests. Now back to Lee Freedman.

Lee has trained 128 Group1 winners and over 300 Group Races, 5 Melbourne Cups, 4 Caulfield Cups, 4 Golden Slippers and 2 Cox Plates. As well as 12 Derbies and 10 Oaks, either a part of a partnership with his brothers or by himself, very impressive numbers no matter which way you look at it. To think this bloke will be training next to Team Edmonds and Chris Wallers satellite stable bodes well for the future of the GCTC as they move closer and closer to having night racing at Aquis Park which I think personally will be a roaring success. Keep an eye on his runners and especially with N.Callow engaged.
