OPINION: All aboard the latest Godolphin Hype Train: ANAMOE

By Jack McInerney –

I think its safe to say that in racing, every few years a GODOLPHIN HYPE TRAIN lurches into motion surrounding the future exploits of a talented young horse in the stable.

The last Godolphin horse I can remember having said hype and hysteria around what it could POTENTIALLY do was a son of Lonhro called KEMENTARI, aka CATMENTARI by detractors!

The story of Kementari has been told many times but its safe to say he never even got close to living up to the hype going on a winless streak that lasted from March 2018 to December 2020 where he won a low Group3 in West Australia called the A J Scahill Stakes.

Now for the next HYPE BEAST, I introduce to you, the Son of Sire Street Boss out of Redoutes Choice mare Anamato, ANAMOE.

ANAMOE

Anamoe burst onto the scene on debut at Caulfield on 10th October in the Listed Grade Debutant Stakes over 1000 Metres, after navigating a chequered passage in the straight the horse went to the line under hands and heels from D.Oliver, running 5th, finishing 2.95 Lengths off the winner FAKE LOVE.

After his rather nondescript debut where he never really seemed tested, Anamoe would stamp himself as a potential star of the future when at his second start of his career he lined up as $5 second Favourite in the Listed Grade Merson Cooper stakes at Sandown Hillside.

After being asked for an effort heading into the bend it almost appeared that Anamoe was in reverse but at the 300m mark Oliver peeled him out and asked him for a supreme effort and he set out after the $2.90Fav FORBES who had well and truly gone for home. With 200 to go Anamoe was still about 2.5-3 lengths off Forbes and ended up nailing it on the line winning by 0.1 Lengths in a thrilling finish courtesy of a withering burst by Anamoe that had to be seen to be believed.

After his win the Merson Cooper, Anamoe was sent for a quick 2.5 month break and returned in the new year on 6th February 2021 in the Blue Diamond Prelude when after again appearing under the pump before the turn flashed home under the urgings of D.Oliver to very nearly nab GENERAL BEAU on the line going down by 0.1 Lengths in what some called a misjudged ride, or maybe that was the intention, we will never know.

At his next start, his fourth ever start in a race he was sent out a $6 pop in the prestigious Blue Diamond Stakes rising 100 metres in trip to 1200, from the 1100 of the Prelude.

Come race day and again he seemed almost uninterested but scythed home under Oliver for third behind stablemate INGRATIATING and the seemingly prodigious winner, ARTORIOUS.

Going off his run in the Blue Diamond it was touted by many that the further the races went the better Anamoe would go, and being out of an Oaks Winner the touts were making sense, for once.

Interestingly, James Cummings kept Anamoe at the 1200m distance for his next two starts, one where he beat another brief Hype Beast in PROFITEER in the Group2 Todman Stakes and another where he ran third in Golden Slipper with an eye catching run that could be more accurately described as literally tearing your eyes of out of your skull as he covered that much ground in the home straight, with little R.King struggling to keep him running straight. Surely, a step up in trip beckoned off the Slipper run.

His next run, his 7th of his short career was in the Group1 Sires Produce, stepping up 200 metres from his 2 previous runs to the 1400 Metre trip.

James McDonald saluting after guiding ANAMOE to victory in the 1400m Sires Produce at Randwick.

Its safe to say it was more of a working gallop for Anamoe who, once balanced after coming around the bend just ambled up to them and won easily by 2.8 Lengths courtesy of an ice cold ride by James McDonald.

Upon reflection I think it’s safe to say that the hype surrounding Anamoe is warranted as he does appear to have that X factor as they say due to his nothing short of blistering speed late in a race. He holds 3 nominations for future races, them being:

  1. The Golden Rose, a race over 1400m which he is the even $4.50 Favourite with Golden Slipper winner STAY INSIDE.
  2. The Caulfield Guineas, a race over 1600m where he is the current $6 Favourite.
  3. The Cox Plate, a race over 2040m where he is currently $13 third Favourite behind ZAAKI and VERRY ELLEEGANT.

The first of these 3 will be The Golden Rose run on September 25th. The field is set to be nothing short of tantalising with names such as STAY INSIDE, CONVERGE, REMARQUE, ARTORIOUS, INGRATIATING, PAULELE & Kiwi SWORD OF STATE.

All eyes will be trained on Rosehill Gardens come Saturday September 25th to see if the latest Godolphin Hype Train ANAMOE will depart from the station in The Golden Rose.

I think it will and it will be an express train to the Cox Plate via the Caulfield Guineas. If he does get a start in the Cox Plate with the 49.5kg ,with even luck it could be all over.

We will have to wait and see.

Sunshine Coast 15/8/2021 $et by Eddie Franklin

Eddie has covered the last 3 races on the card!

Gamble Responsibly !

Race 5

#2 Fighting Commando (2) T: Neil Hocking J: Ms Minonette Kennedy (a2) (59kg)

Comes here with two wins from six attempts this campaign.IS A TRACK SPECIALIST WITH THREE WINS AND A SECOND TO HIS NAME FROM SIX STARTS.

Was able to sit on the speed last start but got boxed in when it mattered.

Gains the claim of Kennedy who has had success abroad with three wins and two seconds from seven starts with the horse.

Should be able to find cover in the run and can peel off when it needs to.

In an easier grade here and is a leading hope.

Race 6

#9. Galaxy Belle (12) T: K A Lees J: Andrew Mallyon (57kg)

After a solid performance win at Grafton two starts back saw a major rise in trip last start at Doomben.

Began very awkwardly and didn’t hit the strides finishing seven of nine.

Is untried at 1800m and have been waiting for the mare to get a crack at this distance and in this grade.

Mallyon gets the ride who has had success aboard previously.

The danger looks to be number 11, Taaffeite, who receives a healthy claim and can run well.

Happy to stick to my guns here and give it another chance. Can win.

Race 7

#12. Aquajak (5) T: Alan L Jones J: Mark Du Plessis (54.5kg)

Was able to show promise in its last start when finishing second behind the short priced favourite.

Will give a forward showing and has had success at this track and distance previously.

Jockey, Mark Du Plessis, retains the ride which is another positive. Top chance

Lucas Rando Saturday Night Trots $et

Hey blokes,

Here are my harness racing tips for tonight at Menangle. Selections are as follows:

Menangle

R1-4. Rays Choice

Drawn suitably in barrier four, this Jason Grimson trained eight-year-old should appreciate the drop back in grade this evening. The Four Starzzz Shark gelding was beaten merely 1.5m two starts ago in fast time behind Double Encounter in a Free For All event, which followed a dominant victory the start prior, against much similar opposition. With Cam Hart booked for the drive, it can be expected this $3.80 chance will be in front; rolling along at speed. Given the early market support, and that I can’t see anything that will be making up significant ground from the second half of the field, I expect him to be incredibly hard to beat.

Suggested Bets: 5U Win- 4. Rays Choice

2-1. Mighty Looee (Next Best)

This son of Sweet Lou started favourite at his first run since crossing the ditch last week, finishing sixth when coming from well back in a race race where four of the first six home trialled the pegs. A member of the dominant Belinda McCarthy stable, he has form around some of the upper echelon of New Zealnd four year olds, attested to by his run in the NZ Jewels three starts ago. Drawn ideally in barrier one, in a race lacking depth, it can be expected that Jack Callaghan will either sit this gelding behind probable leader Metal Rock, or use the inside barrier to his advantage to hold the front. At $2.20, he is a fantastic bet. He is my next best of the night.

Suggested Bets: 7U Win- 1. Mighty Looee + 2U Quinella 1. Mighty Looee, 6. Metal Rock

3-7. Burnnham Boy (Best)

This gelding son of champion stallion Bettors Delight was outstanding seven days ago when running second behind Rocknroll Angel (starts favourite later in the card), having done a power of work breezing throughout in a fast mile to only go down narrowly. Although there is speed drawn to his inside, it can be expect elite reinsman Blake Fitzpatrick will endeavour to settle forward once more again this evening, and provided he isn’t made to work too hard early to find a position; it is incredibly difficult to see this Kevin Pizzuto trained four getting beat. He is my best of the night.

Suggested Bets: 10U Win- 7. Burnham Boy

4-4. Wow Hes A Rockstar

Drawn to enjoy a comfortable trip in transit from barrier four, this Blake Fitzpatrick trained and driven gelding was terribly unlucky last start, beaten 3.7m in the race Mighty Looee comes out of. He arguably should’ve won there, and given I think Mighty Looee is will be winning in a race stronger than this, his form lines up nicely. He is a three time Menangle winner, and seemingly enjoyed the 2300m last start. Although he is a three year old against the older horses, he is blessed with an absolute abundance of speed and natural ability. While the favourite runner Experia has drawn, it too has a fair chance; as well as Ardens Ace who attempts to make it three wins in a week.

Suggested Bets: 3U EW- 4. Wow Hes A Rockstar

5-3. Pocket Book

In what appears to be a match race between Pocket Book and Machs Legacy, the former appears to have a slight edge while being marginally better odds. The daughter of Bettors Delight, trained by breakout star Jason Grimson, comes out of a race of lesser quality at Penrith where she was defeated as a short price favourite, however the larger expanses of the Menangle racing circuit could prove more to her liking. Although she is drawn to the outside of Machs Legacy, Cam Hart drives the gate as well as anyone; so expect her to settle either first or second in the run. A slight market push would is enough for me to have her on top.

Suggested Bets: 5U Same Race Multi- 2. Machs Legacy (T2), 3. Pocket Book (T2) + 5U Win Pocket Book

6-7. Never Been Said

Admittedly Rocknroll Angel looks tremendously hard to beat, but at the short odds on offer I’m happy to look for something to roll her. This mare from the Jack Trainor stable has been flying of late, winning a Group Three event two starts back, before finishing off stoutly over the unsuitable journey last outing. A minor market fluctuation could start a chain of events here, given she is 5s down to 4.80 and Rocknroll Angel is 1.40 to 1.45. With Trainor on the cart, it’s likely she will cross and hand up to Rocknroll Angel in the small field, and if Rocknroll Angels run last week has taken a toll on her, this Well Said mare could be the one finishing off best late back to the mile journey. Uroc Skinny Jeans and Platinum Revolution should fill out the first four.

Suggested Bets: 3U Win, 2U Place- 7. Never Been Said + Quinella 7. Never Been Said, 8. Rocknroll Angel + First Four- 7,8/7,8/3,4/2,3,4

7-2. Champagne Prince

This recent trotting acquisition to the Joe and Mary Rando stable didn’t get it quite right at his first run since crossing the Nullarbor, finishing a distant fourth; but I anticipate marked improvement on that run this evening. That was his first run in nearly six weeks, and his first look around Menangle; so off the front tapes with brilliant trotting driver Jack Trainor aboard, he is overs at upwards of $26. Interestingly to some, this trotter is sired by pacing stallion Mcardle. The two class performers engaged, Drop The Hammer and Tough Monarch, are neglected by the 30 and 40 metre handicaps respectively.

Suggested Bets: 2U EW- 2. Champagne Prince

8-4. The Longest Day

This mare trained by David Aiken is on the quick back up, having been a certainty beat in a few form race on Tuesday. The daughter of American Ideal made great improvement there from her last start, finishing hard on the backs of the eventual place getters without getting a fair crack at them. Likely to be driven cold once more, I anticipate the Victorian mare to be hitting the line strongly at nice odds. The favourite runner, Heavenly Belle, was good when running third seven days ago, and does look hard to beat. The other runner that I’ll be having a small bet on is Mustang Milly, who comes out of the same race as The Longest Day on Tuesday. The Trevor Munday trained mare did a power of work on Tuesday, sitting parked and boxing on gamely to finish fourth, 2.2m in arrears of the winner.

Suggested Bets: 2U Win, 1U Place- 4. The Longest Day + 1U Win, 1U Place- 6. Mustang Milly + Boxed Trifecta 1,4,6.

First two races are a nightmare!

Race 2 has ZARATITE coming in for his 3rd straight start at sub 2$. His latest being comfortably held at 1.40! All the best following him again but I’ll be staying away! I will be backing COME PLAY WITH ME each way instead!

First play comes in race 3 Paul Harvey rides the in form BLAZING AWAY. Will be in the first 3 and will give a good sight around the turn with fitness under his belt.

Race 4 pike has arguably his best ride, number 3 NOBEL LAWRENCE. Won last start little bit extra distance handles the sting out should make it two in a row.

Race 7 going to have CLIFFS OF COMFORT on top! Very nice record off a spell and the wary money is there for him. Another that will be up front and be hard to catch

The feature race is race 8 and Indain pacific returns but it’s a tough race so I’ll be staying sensible and not going all out Going against everything I know and going against pike in the last. Going with the peters investments BRAVE DREAM to be ridden by the hyphenator CJP! Only bad luck beat her last time. Hopefully make amends here
